Blogging, Inspiration and Time Management

Blogging, Inspiration and Time Management

Right now, I’m in Whistler, and it’s 7:43am. I’m surrounded by wintery firs, the air is just on the right side of cold, and I’m all wrapped up in a blanket listening to the birds sing. The mountains twinkle in the distance.

This morning I woke up early, so came out onto the little balcony of my hotel with a cup of tea to write. Moments like these are precious. Lately it seems like the harder I work and the more I pitch and the more connections I make, the more work keeps piling up and up and up. Which is great, obviously.

Girl’s gotta make a living.

But these chilled out little nuggets of time where I just get to write and write and remember it is what makes my job so amazing, are sometimes

hard to come by

.

These are the moments people think of and relish when I tell them I’m a freelance writer. They picture this; an

ever-changing office of incredible scenes from around the world

. Squeezing in a few hours of crazy inspired writing before jetting off to the next location.

Which, is sometimes, what it’s like.

I hate being smug, but being able to work wherever you want is definitely one of the perks.

But writing on the road is also hard. It’s hard to conjure up inspiration and dedication on demand when there’s a new place waiting to be explored. Which is why, for the past couple of months or so, my blog has been playing catch-up on a backload of unwritten America posts. If you read my blog and follow me on social media, you’re probably pretty confused about why I’m raving about Vancouver and Whistler but publishing posts about California.

And that’s because with all of the travelling, the exploring, the snapping, and the load of freelance writing jobs I’ve worked my way through,

my time management when it comes to my blog has taken a bit of a backseat.

Which I did not want to happen, and I do not want to happen again.

Because I love my little online space. I love just sitting down to write, making sense of my new surroundings by describing them to you, or just rambling about what is going on right here, right now. It feels so refreshing this morning, to be sitting here while the world still wakes up and before any other paid writing jobs have to take priority,

to just write.

To write without having to fling my mind back into last month and try to remember where I was and the kind of post I wanted to write about it. This method doesn’t produce my best work – so from now on,

I’m upping my game.

I’m going to be more on it with time management when it comes to my blog – I’m going to absolutely prioritise this rambly little space because

it encapsulates everything about why I write in the first place.

And I have so many plans for it. I’m not going to sit here and tell you it’s going to get BIGGER and BETTER and packed with TRAVEL TIPS like some of the big travel blogs, because if we’re going to compare, they are probably the Hollywood Blockbusters, and

I’m the indie flick no one can really make sense of.

But I do want to make some changes around here. There is going to be more regular content, a few little series, a new layout.

And now I’ve told you that, I pretty much have to do it. So here’s to inspiration, travelling, blogging and… better time management.

Watch this space!
