The Last Stop: Seattle

The Last Stop: Seattle

We gave ourselves a full week in Seattle, allowing us a good amount of time to explore the city as well as a couple of days to get everything in order for crossing the border to Canada.

It felt strange to already be at the end of our road trip. Three months had gone by in the flash of an eye. It sounds like a cliche, but it really did feel like we'd arrived in New York, bright-eyed and bushy tailed, just days ago. But it was almost time to leave the USA and embark on an adventure of a slightly different kind.

But first, Seattle.

We had a City Pass here, which meant we got access to loads of great attractions for a reduced price. After a bit of a debacle handing back the rental car (I'm sure Phil) will go into this in more detail!) our first stop was the EMP Museum. Inspired by Jimi Hendrix, it's dedicated to music and popular culture. Sipping on coffee, we spent the afternoon learning about Nirvana, the origin of the horror movie, the appeal of fantasy and the life of Jimi himself.

The next day,  we went for a cruise around the harbour with Argosy Cruises before heading to the famous Pike Place Market, which is a lively and bustling mixture of shops, market stalls and restaurants. But not before heading to the first ever Starbucks (what can I say. We're big Starbucks fans. Not sorry).

Other highlights included the Space Needle and it's 360 views out over Seattle, and the Chihuly Garden and Glass, a really unique art installation celebrating the art of glass blowing.

Next thing we knew, we were boarding the Amtrak train, Canada-bound after an incredible three months exploring America.

We've been in Vancouver for the last six weeks now, and I've got plenty to fill you in on in upcoming blogposts. But right now I'm on a bus on the sea to sky highway, headed to Whistler for the next five days. Here's to the next adventure!
